Sterling — CPSIA Regulations

Book Product

As part of Sterling’s on-going quality program for children’s books, we obtain test reports for printing inks and coatings, all of which have shown levels of lead below the long term legal limit of 90 ppm for lead paint and 100 ppm for lead content. Going forward, Sterling will obtain annual test reports on raw materials including inks, coatings and substrates. In our view books are not required to be tested for phthalates.

Kit and Book-plus Products

Sterling tests book-plus and kit products intended for use by children up to 14 years of age according to the ASTM F963 toy safety standards. Going forward, childrenīs book plus and kit product will be tested according to ASTM F963 and the CPSIA for lead in surface coatings, total lead content and phthalates, as required.
